Efficient total synthesis
Students will be able to design an efficient total synthesis of a complex molecule by recognizing substructures amenable to known transformations.
Evaluate and critique total syntheses
Students will be able to evaluate and critique total syntheses from the literature by judging the efficiency of the overall route and the utility of key transformations.
Expanded synthetic reaction reservoir
Students will possess an expanded reservoir of reactions for use in your own synthetic efforts based on various reactions to install carbon-carbon bonds and all common functional groups.
Natural product familiarity
Students will become familiar with various types of natural products produced by plants, microorganisms, and from marine sources together with applications in medicinal chemistry.
