Leave of Absence

Under some circumstances you may be temporarily excused from taking classes and progressing in your degree requirements. Students must have completed at least two credit hours the semester of admission with acceptable grades to be eligible for a leave of absence. While on leave, the student will be excused from the university’s minimum registration requirement.

A graduate student may receive a "leave of absence” for one of the following reasons:

  1. Medical (up to one year)
  2. Military (up to one year)
  3. Mission (length of LDS mission)

The Leave of Absence Form must be submitted to Graduate Studies along with official signed documentation regarding the request.

The time limit to completion of the degree does not change (5 years for masters students; 8 years for doctoral students). Also, students on leave will not be required to demonstrate satisfactory progress in the program.
