Deferments

If you need to defer your graduate admission because of one of the four exceptions including 1) missionary or 2) military deployment, 3) medical reason, or 4) international student visa issue then you will need to complete and submit the corresponding form along with supporting documentation for approval (see "Admission Forms").

Please note that the granting of a deferral for enrollment does not imply the deferral of scholarships, fellowships, or assistantships. Any commitments that have been made to affiliate with a specific faculty adviser, lab, or research project will no longer apply. All graduate degree programs are subject to a time limit (eight years for a doctoral degree and five years for a master’s degree). Time to degree begins with the semester of your original acceptance into the program.
