Purposes of education
Students will be able to articulate the multiple and sometimes conflicting purposes of schooling in a democratic society
External influences on education
Students will be able to:
- identify the major social, political, and economic forces that shape our schools and educational policies and practices
- place these policies and practices in cultural, historical and philosophical perspective
- comprehend how differences in race, culture, gender, ability and income affect educational opportunity
Manage systems
Students will be able to identify ways to manage institutional and systemic forces so that schooling is informed by high educational ideals.
