Golden Age Literature

Sixteenth- and seventeenth-century Spanish literature.

Authors

Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the life and works of one or more authors from the 16th and 17th centuries

Context

Students will be able to describe how the texts studied fit into their historical, cultural, and literary context.

Genre

Students will be able to discuss critically one or more genres of the Early Modern period, describe the characteristics of the genre(s), using specific examples from the texts studied.

Writing

Students will carry out original research on texts from the Early Modern period and produce abstracts, annotated bibliographies, conference papers, extended papers, editions and/or translations.

Literary Criticism

Students will be able to demonstrate a knowledge of a few major critical studies, including recent criticism of 16th and 17th century Spanish literature, and explain their contributions to the critical discourse about Early Modern Spanish literature.
