Qualitative Research Methods

Theories and methods of qualitative research emphasizing philosophical assumptions, question formulation, data gathering, interpretation, and presentation of findings.

1. Identify and critically evaluate qualitative methods

Students will identify and critically evaluate a broad range of qualitative methods of research in contemporary psychology.

Measurement: Multiple choice quizzes/Analytic essays.

2. Propose, design, and conduct a novel qualitative project

Students will propose, design, and conduct a novel research project employing qualitative methods.

Measurement: Course length research project.

3. Critically evaluate contemporary qualitative research

Students will critically evaluate contemporary examples of qualitative research from a variety of traditions, as well as submit their own work in the course to such evaluation.

Measurement: Analytic essays and critical review papers.
