Syntactic Theory

Display understanding of how contemporary syntactic theory has developed, beginning with the contributions of Noam Chomsky.

Historical Origins

Demonstrate familiarity with an outline of how modern syntactic theory has developed from its origins in Transformational Generative Grammar to the variety of approaches currently in use.

Linguistic Theories

Compare how different theories explain a set of syntactical problems of Spanish (e.g., passive voice, subject-verb inversion, clitic placement, wh-movement, etc).

Research Paper

Write a research paper in which a variety of approaches to a particular problem of syntax are compared and contrasted.
