Principles of pharmacology, prescribing and managing drug therapy for advanced practice nurses.

Pathophysiology of Disease States

Describes from a therapeutic standpoint the root causes of various disease states and the effect of pharmacological treatment.

Drug Classification Effects

Explains how various drug classes alter and treat the root causes or symptoms of diseases. 

Drug Classifications

Identifies ambulatory care drugs in each drug class including their standard doses and directions.

Appropriate Drug Therapy

Selects an appropriate therapy based on guidelines and cost-effectiveness.

Prescribing Medications

Correctly prescribes medications for various disease states considering drug-to-drug interactions.

Decision-Making Skills

Applies appropriate decision-making skills in initiating, monitoring, and modifying pharmacological treatment plans.

Pharmacodynamics/Pharmacokinetics

Demonstrates an understanding of the relationship between patients' physiological/pathological variables and pharmacodynamics/pharmacokinetics.

Pharmacotherapeutics

Applies individualized, evidence-based knowledge of pharmacotherapeutics to patients based on age, gender, race, culture, pathological condition, and individual needs.
