Environmental Fluid Dynamics
Hours
3.0 Credit, 3 Lecture, 0 Lab
Fluid dynamics of the atmosphere and oceans related to free surface, two layer, and continuously stratified flows emphasizing linear and nonlinear free-surface and internal gravity waves.
Flow Patterns and Generation
Understand basic geophysical flow patterns and their generation mechanisms.
Using Navier-Stokes Equations
Be able to simplify the Navier-Stokes equations to use in non-constant density fluids and for common geophysical and environmental flows. Be able to analyze these equations to estimate flow field dynamics.
Forms of Instabilities
Understand forms of instabilities in non-uniform density fluid motion.
