Students participate in simulated exercises to review and draft legislation, to prepare legislative findings and “records” to support draft legislation and to prepare oral presentations of their work.

Gov. & Leg. Rep 1

Students will learn skills necessary to provide legal advice in a governmental setting including legal reasoning and analysis, problem solving and making written and oral presentations.

Gov. & Leg. Rep 2

Students will understand the characteristics of good legal drafting, types of legal drafting (discursive, litigation-related and normative) and the consequences of legal drafting.

Gov. & Leg. Rep 3

Students will be able to conduct legal research and draft legal documents which may include legal opinions, contracts, legislation and pleadings.

Students will learn to exercise creativity and innovation, practical judgment, influencing and advocacy, speaking, listening, strategic planning, community involvement, building collaborations and resolving problems presented in a legal context.
