Close Reading in Original Language

By approaching the texts of selected Latin authors successful students will learn techniques for reading Latin with subtlety and precision. The authors chosen for study will vary according to the preference of the faculty member teaching the course.

Critical Method

Successful students will understand and apply principles and practice of critical method in all its complexity, with specific reference to selected Latin texts.

Close Reading in Original Language

Successful students will intelligently evaluate texts of selected Latin authors through close reading in the original language and express this is examinations and essays.

Literary History

Successful students will understand the place of the selected Latin author(s) and text(s) in the literary history of Classical antiquity, locating them in the larger context of political and cultural history.
