Managing health risks, particularly those relating to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and obesity.

Disease Prevention

Students will be able to explain epidemiologic concepts of disease prevention on written essay exams

Causes and Consequences of Chronic Disease

Students will be able to describe the causes and consequences of specific chronic diseases and formulate recommendations for lifestyle changes on written exams

Behavior and Intervention Prescription

Students will be able to prescribe appropriate behaviors and interventions for adults according to their health risks on written essay exams

Literature Review and Analysis

Students will be able to thoroughly review and analyze the literature within a key area of lifestyle medicine and draw appropriate conclusions, as shown on article reviews that will be evaluated by the teacher

Effective Writing

Students will be able to write about the causes and consequences of lifestyle-related chronic diseases using a variety of formats, including newsletters, summaries, and reports that will be evaluated by the teacher

"N of 1" Paper

Students will be able to modify their own behavior in order to decrease their personal risk of CHD and write about the experience in a “N of 1" paper that will be evaluated by the teacher

Nutrition and health

Students will be able to discuss, in writing, key concepts of nutrition and health as explained in the scientific literature. 

Lifestyle and Health Presentation

Students will be able to develop and present information from the scientific literature using a PowerPoint format about a specific topic on disease prevention.
