Hours

3.0 Credit, 2 Lecture, 1 Lab

Semester

Fall
Advanced principles of lower-extremity injury evaluation; evaluation techniques for the lower extremities.

Evaluation and Assessment

Perform and interpret the results of fitness tests including muscular endurance, strength, agility, speed and balance.

Diagnosis

Diagnose injuries through interpretation of clinical evaluation by observing, palpating, and testing tissues to determine pathologies.

Grade manual muscle testing and apply appropriate stress tests for ligamentous, capsular stability or muscle, and fractures.

Measurement and Assessment

Accurately measure the active, passive, and resistive motion using commonly accepted techniques, including the use of a goniometer, tape measure, and inclinometer.

Neurological Diagnosis

Assess neurological status, including cranial nerve function, myotomes, dermatomes and reflexes, and circulatory status.

Documentation

Document the results of all of the assessments including the diagnosis.

Mechanism of Injury

Explain and/or demonstrate mechanisms of common injuries in various sports.

Immediate and Emergency Care

Select proper on-the-field/off-the-field injury management techniques.
