Upon successful completion of the course economics of education, students are enabled: (1) to understand economic theories, models, and logic for improving student learning and causes of education challenges; (2) to see and understand the systems of scientific branch and literature in local problems of practice within a broader perspective; (3) to frame problems of practice dissertation in practice context of community and immediacy of self for appropriate intervention(s); (3) to apply perspective economic tools to issues of choice, capabilities in equity and production function in education, both problems of effective resource allocation; (4) to use the literature and methods as an analytic starting point to critique standard education practices and functionality; and (5) to understand the ways in which economic logic is used and abused by educational leaders in language and social policy; and lastly apply methods of social research that form rights in education organizational reform and public policy.

Economics of education is useful for students interested in local reform content and practice context challenges. It is relevant for students interested to be change agents in schools or with desire to pursuing consultancy in social and public policy. In addition, knowledge of economic analysis is useful in understanding a great range of contemporary debate, both in education and in many other areas. By the end of the course, students are enabled to incorporate basic microeconomic theoretical concepts and models in their empirical and methodological research or to frame local challenges from big ideas from course literature that serves as appropriate entry points for non-traditional dissertation.
