Introduction to human resource management in educational organizations. Emphasizes issues related to working with people, policies, laws, and procedures for sound personnel administration practices, including job analysis, recruitment, selection, professional development, supervision, performance appraisal, and managing school and district budgets for improved learning.

Role of the Principal

Understand the role of the principal in enacting the legal aspects of human resource management including: personnel selection and evaluation procedures, recruiting, interviewing and placement procedures, and monitoring staff progress in a fair and equitable manner.

Effective Communication

Identify components of effective communication, conflict resolution, mediation and negotiation skills as it relates to both disciplinary procedures and consensus building.

Resource Management

Develop a working knowledge of fiscal management of schools including how funds are generated, allocated and managed to ensure student learning. (Linked with EDLF program outcome:  Lead learning communities with effective)
