Contaminant Transport

Hours

3.0 Credit, 3 Lecture, 0 Lab

Prerequisites

Semester

Winter
Fate and transport of contaminants in groundwater. Advection, dispersion, adsorption, biodegradation, and computer simulation focusing on the theory and mathematics used to model these processes.

Dispersivity

Understand the phyical and mathmatical models of dispersivity and be able to solve problems using these concepts.

Heterogeneity

Understand the concepts of field heterogeneity as it applies to contaminant transport and be able to address modeling issues that arise from heterogeneity

Mathmatical Descriptions

Be able to setup, solve, and understand mathmatical descriptions of contaminant transport problems. This includes boundary and initial conditions.

Modeling

Understand and be able to recomend correct modeling approaches including complexity (e.g., 1d, 2d, 3d) and when to use analytical or descrete approaches.
