"Water Fun at Bear Lake"

Painting of Bear Lake

Submitter Statement:

At BYU. in 1973 I earned a Master's Degree in Secondary Education Curriculum with a graduate minor in Art. I taught high school and art in junior high both in Utah and California. I then began a career in school administration, retiring in 2010. Following retirement, my wife and I moved to Utah and served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at the Winter Quarters Historic Site.

I began to seriously paint watercolors while in Omaha, Nebraska. Upon returning home I became a member of the Southern Utah Watercolor Society, exhibiting in art shows and participating in community events. I am presently President of the Southern Utah Watercolor Society, a member of the Southern Utah Arts Guild and Cedar City Arts Council. I wrote grants and produced two plein air art competitions in Cedar City. I also am owner of WatercolorsWest, LLC to sell paintings and promote free workshops in the Cedar City community. I have been instrumental in revitalizing painting in Cedar City. My love of art and my education at BYU has been instrumental in providing me opportunities to develop art programs in Southern Utah.

Entry Description:

While on vacation at Bear Lake, we went boating one afternoon. The beautiful scenery was inspirational. I knew I had to paint to capture the wonderful memory of this place.
