Daily Bread

Painting of people at a dinner

Submitter Statement:

As a Brigham Young University alumna, my education gave me more than technical training; it shaped my worldview. At BYU, I was taught that artistic expression can and should be a force for good. The university's mission to “enter to learn, go forth to serve” has remained a guiding principle in my creative life. BYU emphasized both individual worth and the divine potential in all people, truths that continue to shape my work and relationships.

"Daily Bread" is my offering of light in a divided world. It reflects my belief, rooted in my BYU experience, that art can bridge divides, foster empathy, and encourage community. Through this piece, I hope to inspire viewers to reflect on the abundance of kindness, inclusion, and love.

Entry Description:

"Daily Bread," 36 x 48 inches, oil and cold wax on canvas.

Anne Frank once wrote, “There’s plenty of room for everyone in the world. Enough money, riches, and beauty for us to share. God has made enough for everyone, so let us all begin then by sharing it fairly.” In this table scene, I’ve sought to embody Anne's words through a gathering of people from diverse ages and backgrounds, united in the simple, profound act of sharing a meal. It is a visual expression of generosity, inclusion, and the abundance that comes with community.
