Touched by Light

Painting of a blue and yellow body touching its heart

Submitter Statement:

The title of the piece is Touched By Light, because to me it represents the Light of Christ that resides in all of us. As children of God and as members of the Church of Jesus Christ, we have direct access to the Savior’s Divine Light. It is our duty to go forth and serve, to go forth and share this light, not to put it under a bushel. BYU has established in me a drive to go forth and serve with all my heart, might, mind and strength, to share my light and that of the Savior’s and be a beacon to the sick, the needy, and the downtrodden. My time at BYU has inspired me to share my light, to collaborate with others and to build a better future. My studies in the humanities have inspired me to be a better person, a better human. We often forget that there are many sources of Light in this world, and some of the most inspired and inspiring people thrive in the realm of humanities. It has opened the world up to me, it is the door that allows me to see and seek understanding in all corners of the earth with all peoples of the earth. Culture, Language, Philosophy, Arts and more are all aspects of Light that we can study, and as we do so, we can share and magnify that Light around the world!

Digital Art; 2048x2732px

This piece was inspired by many aspects of my studies at BYU. First the color palette is inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night, because despite the difficulties and challenges he faced in his life he shared his vision and his light. The hand over the heart is symbolic, as is the light emanating from it. It represents the Light of Christ that resides in us all and is a testimony of his Divinity and of ours. We are all children of a Loving Heavenly Father who blessed us each with our own gifts, that should be used to uplift and serve others. It is with all our heart that we are directed to serve others, and to be a Beacon of Light in all places and at all times. Following the Light of Christ that resides in us, sharing it in all places, and being conduits for that Light to illuminate the darkest of places, the lowly of heart, that is what it means to be Touched By Light.
