    MEd - School Leadership Specialization

    The School Leadership specialization develops competent educational leaders of faith, intellect, and character who have a vision and a compelling sense of purpose for the continuous improvement of schools and enhancement of learning for all. In this graduate program, students will acquire the knowledge and skills to facilitate, motivate, and lead high levels of learning for all students and teachers.

    • Program of Study. To be submitted by end of first semester. 
    • Administrative Internship. A minimum of 250 hours of administrative internship (EDLF 688R - Administrative Internship) and all related requirements, including the Reflective Internship Seminar (EDLF 635R).
    • Internship Leadership Project. As part of the Administrative Internship, students will complete the Internship Leadership Project (ILP), designed to provide the opportunity to apply theory to practice and facilitate the improvement of student learning in a school where they are working as an administrative intern.
    • Performance Evaluation. Three times during the academic year, students will be evaluated by the faculty based on their performance and progress in the program.
    • Comprehensive Examination. Students complete the oral and written comprehensive examination upon completion of course requirements.

    Requirements for Minimum Registration. Following admission to the MEd program, the University requires that students complete at least 6 semester hours of approved program credit during each academic year (September 1 to August 31).

    Requirements for Education Leadership License in Addition to Master’s Degree. To become a school site administrator, and for certain district office positions in Utah, an Education Leadership License is required. This license, an endorsement to the teaching certificate, requires a Level II Teaching License, the completion of the Educational Leadership master’s degree (including the completion of the administrative internship), and a successful Administrative Praxis exam score. Students completing all licensure requirements may apply to the department for the required letter of recommendation for licensure to be submitted by the department to the Utah State Office of Education.

    MEd - Education Policy Studies Specialization

    The Education Policy Studies (EPS) specialization is a rigorous full-time, two-year program, preparing professionals to contribute to educational change, policy, and research on a local, national, and/or global scale. Students examine educational movements, reforms, outcomes, and controversies using modes of inquiry associated with an array of scholarship fields and disciplines.

    Program Outcomes
    Quantitative research design and study
    Students will demonstrate competence in the design of a quantitative study and the performance of quantitative data anaylsis.

    Education Policy - Internships
    Students will demonstrate their knowledge of educational policies, practices, and issues in social cultural, political, and economic contexts and their skill to apply that knowledge through successful internships with policy-makers and policy-based institution (as rated by their supervisors).

    Addressing Educational and Social Problems
    Connect students to an educational or social problem through work with an educational organization (capstone internship), the production of education-focused research (capstone thesis), or the design of an innovative solution to an existing educational challenge (capstone project).
