Program Requirements
MEd - Education Policy Studies Specialization

The Education Policy Studies (EPS) specialization is a rigorous full-time, two-year program, preparing professionals to contribute to educational change, policy, and research on a local, national, and/or global scale. Students examine educational movements, reforms, outcomes, and controversies using modes of inquiry associated with an array of scholarship fields and disciplines.

Requirements for Degree
  • Credit hours: 37
  • Required EDLF courses:
    • 621 (Economics of Education)
    • 622 (The Law and Education)
    • 650 (Education Policy)
    • 655 (Social History of Education)
    • 672 (Research Methods)
    • 640 (Quantitative Reasoning 1)
    • 641 (Quantitative Reasoning 2)
    • 670R (Seminar in Education)
    • Choice of Research Course
    • 6 credits of electives in variety of topics
    • Capstone (Internship & Project or Thesis)
  • Program of Study. To be submitted by end of first semester.
  • Performance Evaluation. Three times during the academic year, students will be evaluated by the faculty based on their performance and progress in the program.
  • Comprehensive Examination. Students complete the oral and written comprehensive examination upon completion of course requirements.
Applicants are admitted annually and begin in fall semester.

Program Outcomes
Education Policies, Practices, and Issues
Demonstrate an understanding of educational policies, practices, and issues in social, cultural, political, and economic contexts at the local, national, and international levels.

Quantitative Research Design and Data Analysis
Demonstrate competence in the design of a quantitative study and the performance of quantitative data analysis.


Addressing Educational and Social Problems
Contribute to addressing an educational or social problem through work with an educational organization (capstone internship), the production of education-focused research (capstone thesis), or the design of an innovative solution to an existing educational challenge (capstone project).
