Graduate Programs
Manufacturing Engineering (MS)
Graduates are prepared for a variety of employment experiences in industry, ranging from process design and management to research and development. For those interested in pursuing a PhD, a MS in Manufacturing Engineering strengthens application criteria and meaningfully enhances the PhD experience through coursework, research publications, and preparation for qualification exams.
The MS program in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering provides world-recognized leadership in the education of students pursuing a degree in manufacturing engineering through a program focused on rigorous and in-depth understanding of manufacturing processes. This focus provides a unique expertise related to the science of manufacturing design and production. Graduate students in the program have opportunities to engage in research associated with metallurgical or composite materials processing, solid-state processing and joining, and additive or subtractive processing. Specific research activities in these areas are described on the Manufacturing Engineering Department Web page at https://mfgen.byu.edu/research-in-mfgen.
The Manufacturing Engineering Department offers one graduate degree: Manufacturing Engineering—MS.
The typical time required to obtain an MS in manufacturing engineering is approximately two years.
